ANNIE KNIGHT
I have always enjoyed any kind of art or crafts and wiled away many hours drawing as children often do. My mother was a very craft-oriented and civic-minded woman so I grew up learning a great variety of skills from her and have many fond memories of making and participating in all kinds of projects for home, charity, school and clubs. I guess I was fearful that I might not have what it takes to make a good living at being a professional artist or that I might somehow ruin a love, so, I pursued horticulture instead and put those artistic dreams to rest until retirement.
To get started on my artistic journey; basic drawing class homework of copying famous works of art in pastels then a beginning painting class at a local college proved to be a great launching ground for me. With that encouraging experience, I have since enjoyed developing my natural talents and learning about the different mediums and techniques through workshops by successful local professional artists and more experienced artist friends.
Along the way, I discovered I am most attracted to the fine details found in the style of Realistic Naturalism and very much enjoy learning to emulate the textures and colors found in nature. I equally enjoy the challenges of Landscape, Figurative and Animal subjects done in a studio setting and recently expanded my skillset to include plein-air painting.
