CHERYL MATHIESON

An artist at heart all my life, I am now able to devote time to honing my craft as a painter. My oil, acrylic or pastel paintings are representational depictions of people, places and events that use color to express mood and atmosphere in order to tell a story.

The Renaissance painter, Caravaggio’s earthy, realistically depicted events, combined with the utter looseness and brilliant color choices of Van Gogh, along with contemporary plein air artists, such as Richard Schmidt, are a few of the influences on my work.

My art history background, Graphic Design degree and Art Therapy degree have been overlaid by my Christian faith to impact how I see the world and what I choose to paint.
